newspaper couch video

Winter Semester BYU 2011

Ken, Alton, Justin and I made a newspaper couch. It was going to be three times as big, but we settled for a third of a couch. I really liked having it. I used it as an extra table for art and when we had guests over they had a place to sit. It did start to get in the way though. Ken didn't like it much after a while.

For my final project in 2D Design I used the couch to make a collage. You can see the process for that piece here:

Justin and I cut the couch up and recycled it at the end of the semester.

R.I.P. Newspaper couch you will be missed.

Hey Justin

Finally part 4 of 4!
I drew this a couple days ago and didn't upload it.  I still have another storyline I want to draw and a few odds and end comics, but I freakin hate drawing in the MSJAR journal!

Stay tune for some fan art in the coming week!

Zombies!

Will explain in an hour or two.  I have to run to class

Four and a half hours later: Okay, here is the story.  A few weeks ago Alton got this sweet zombie board game.  The point of the game is to either kill 25 zombies in one life, which is like impossible, or be the first to get to  the heli-pad first.  Alton played with some guys in his hall and it took a few hours for anyone to win.  The nice thing about the game is that you can hop in or out of it whenever you'd like.  So last weekend I was busy but they were playing this game, so I went to give it a try.

They had been playing for an hour and the heli-pad hadn't been laid down yet.  I jumped in to play a few turns.  After my first turn the heli-pad was put down and Alton make a rush for it.  He shot himself with an adrenaline shot and used his chain saw.  He didn't get past any zombies and died.  It was my turn next and I had a car, so I drove to the heli-pad, killing 7 zombies (the high for the game) and got to the heli-pad and won.

The game is pretty sweet and was the inspiration for today's strip.

Friday Favorites-- Hark! A Vagrant!

Friday Favorite #3
Kate Beaton

So there's this artist named Kate Beaton.  She draws comics about history, or maybe makes fun of historical characters, or literature, or something along those lines.
She's also done art for Marvel's "Strange Tales II" series, which I kind of like because it's about superheroes living normal lives and having to deal with the same exact crap as everyone else... superheroes are people too, you know!
But yeah, enough talk.  Let's see some of my favorite ones!
Oh, and I need to preemptively apologize for a lot of the language.... She doesn't exactly have the cleanest mouth in the world....

I got all these from www.harkavagrant.com, they are property of Kate Beaton, so be nice and don't steal them. Okay?  Thanks.

Okay, first off, I have to say I like how these comics are not as focused on the realism of the art or even the style of it (some comics drive me crazy because they are too focused on a certain style).  They are art for the sake of art, and the characters are meant to show expressions and be funny!  AND they look like who they should look like.
Plus her jokes are legitimately funny!  If you can stand the language, I suggest you go check out all of her comics RIGHT NOW.  It's that important.
Yup, that's all I have to say about Hark! A Vagrant.

Thursday Dinner Part One: Fortune Cookies

I really liked yesterday's comic but today's. . .not so much.  I was in a rush and wanted to have some sort of comic for you guys.  My carpal tunnel has been really bad today as well, therefore resulting in the comic above.

Hope everyone's week has been going good.  I have been swamped with homework and exams.  Only one exam left this week!

EDIT: I removed the original comic last night.   Here is what it used to look like:

not tron legacy

Rohan's status on gmail chat last night inspired the punch line of this comic.  If you don't get the reference watch this--> click me!  It's from the N64 game Star Fox 64.

Those who follow the blog will remember that Rohan was the winner of the contest from a few weeks ago.   His prize has been finished and mailed.  He asked for a drawing of Samus.  I will not be posting the full drawing on my blog.  It is Rohan's drawing and it wouldn't be fair to post it so everyone could see his prize.  But here is a little peek for everyone:
What do you guys think of Ken?  He has been the subject of a lot of comics and he will no doubt show up in plenty in the future.  Let Ken and I know what you think below in the comments or use the ask page and ask him a question.  Have a great day!
